Information regarding registering a Locost in the UK

There have been many discussions on the Locost list regarding the registration of a Locost in the UK.

The major problem I can see is deciding in which category the Locost falls.  Is is a radically altered vehicle, a kit car or a kit conversion.  My own feeling is that none of the descriptions fit the Locost, but these are the only ones on offer so it it a case of choosing which one you think your car comes nearest to.  It is important that you keep receipts for everything you use to build your car as these will be needed for registration.  I hope this is of some help.

I have removed the original text as it is Crown copyright, but all of the information can be found on the following DVLA page: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regrebil.htm

The DVLA information has been updated slightly in the fact that some of the paragraphs have been re-worded, but my understanding is that the Locost falls in the category of "Kit Conversion which means that if you use two or more of the major components from the donor, an age related registration number will be issued.
